Social

Of course, being a member of Eyott isn’t just about the sailing, there’s a social side to the club as well.

We run various types of events throughout the year including Chinese / Indian / fish and chips take-away nights, quizzes and BBQ’s at the club house and our more formal end of season dinner “The Laying Up Supper and prize giving” in November.

The first event of the year is the “At Home” food evening held at a member’s house, normally the Commodore.

Our Fitting out Supper is held in March. This is an evening meal the day before the first race of the season.

The club holds a regatta week in the middle of August with social events throughout the week for young and old. Crabbing, treasure hunt, quiz and end of week BBQ and prize giving. There are plenty of refreshments on offer for friends and family during the racing.

The proximity of the river, south facing aspect and the enclosed grounds gives us a safe location for families. A lovely sight to see are children playing in the grounds, people on the clubhouse deck chatting and drinking tea, whilst others are out sailing. It’s an ideal place to catch up with friends.

Our annual early morning race is followed by an alfresco full English breakfast. What a way to begin the day! Always a well-supported race despite the early start.

Our summer evening BBQ and buffet is a very popular event. We invite neighbouring clubs to join us and is timed so that their members can visit us by boat as well as road.

During the season we arrange a number of public ‘try sailing days’ in addition to our open day and the RYA push the boat out event.   The dates for these special days can be found in the current years’ calendar.
