Eyott Sailing Club Triumphs at the 2025 Comet National Championships

Eyott Sailing Club made an impressive impact at the recent Comet class dinghy 2025 National Championships, hosted by Gunfleet Sailing Club. The three-day event attracted entries from across the country, including Liverpool, Bristol, Lyme Regis, and Inverness. Among the twenty-nine boats that took part, Eyott Sailing Club proudly fielded four sailors Andy Dale, John Hancox, Alexander Johnson and Toby Hancox who showcased their sailing skills over the weekend.

On the first day, the competitors faced challenging conditions with a force 5 gusting 6 wind from the south-west. The waves breaking aggressively on the shore proved daunting for many visitors from inland water clubs.

The second race saw slightly moderated wind conditions, but some competitors chose to sit it out. Eyott’s sailors, however, continued to push forward and although a number of boats retired due to the challenging conditions, three of the Eyott sailors finished the race.

Day two brought brighter conditions with a slight moderation in wind strength and a gentler sea. However, a sudden squall touched force 7, followed by a downpour of rain, before dropping to force four. Eyott’s sailors coped admirably with the changing conditions. Ian Gore from Up River Yacht Club secured third place in the first race of the day.

The third and final day sealed victory for Jack Daly of Hampton Pier with two further wins, leaving no doubt that he was the 2025 Comet National Champion. Eyott Sailing Club’s consistent performance throughout the championship earned them the prestigious team championship title. The club’s sailors demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience, making their mark on the national stage.
